Who should attend?

The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Health and Safety qualification is aimed at candidates who are responsible for developing and applying health and safety procedures and planning in a strategic manner. The candidates should ideally be in a health and safety managerial role or a Director, who is the health and safety champion within an organisation, to be considered for this qualification.

Course Content

The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Health and Safety  syllabus has been designed to cover the aspects/ topics for strategic health and safety leadership. There are 5 individual mandatory units that must be completed to obtain the overall qualification.

  • Risk-based safety systems management 

  • Safety Culture, Sustainability and the global effect on performance 

  • Digital technologies and Incident Investigation 

  • Development as a Strategic Manager 

  • Establish business risk management process 

  1. Promote a positive health and safety culture
  2. Develop and implement the health and safety policy
  3. Develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety information
  4. Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters
  5. Identify, assess and control health and safety risks
  6. Develop and implement proactive monitoring systems for health and safety
  7. Develop and implement reactive monitoring systems for health and safety
  8. Develop and implement health and safety emergency response systems and procedures
  9. Develop and implement health and safety review systems
  10. Maintain knowledge of improvements to influence health and safety practice

Certification

The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Health and Safety qualification is competence-based; candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units.  Assessment is achieved by measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification.  Each candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

The qualification will be internally assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified Assessor from Altruisk.

Duration

The qualification involves a notional 500 hours of learning study and preparation (although this figure will depend upon experience).

What will I gain from this Qualification?

The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Health and Safety takes your health and safety knowledge to a higher level, helping you strategically manage health and safety in the workplace. It will advance your skills as a health and safety practitioner and increase confidence in your abilities.

 

The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Health and Safety exceeds the requirement for Graduate Membership (GradIOSH).  Once your IPD is completed you will be eligible for Chartered Membership (CMIOSH).  On completion you can use this to progress to a Health and Safety Masters Degree.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however, candidates must be in a role that allows them to collect the required evidence. It would be advisable for candidates to already hold a health and safety qualification such as the NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent. We will send you a Questionnaire before your begin to ensure that you are in a position to gain the necessary evidence for the qualification, and to ensure it is the right course for you.

Can I submit information on-line?

Our user friendly on-line system enables you to plan, organise, upload evidence and review your progress. The cloud based software gives you the freedom to access your ePortfolio anywhere at anytime. Your assessor also has access to your portfolio, so that you can liaise with them on-line, and they can review your work and monitor your progress also.

How long will it take?

The flexibility of this qualification allows you to complete it in a time period to suit candidates. Normally this will be between six months to one year but depends upon your current workload and the amount of time each candidate can contribute. The qualification involves a notional 500 hours of learning study and preparation (although this figure will depend upon experience).

What kind of support will I receive?

You will be assigned a designated NVQ tutor/ assessor who will monitor your progress throughout your learning. They will provide you with an induction, and they will mark your completed assignments and provide feedback, and will respond to your questions and queries when necessary. We will do our very best to ensure you are well prepared for gaining the qualification.
