FAQs

  • What will I gain from this Qualification?

The NEBOSH General Certificate provides you with a broad foundation of occupational health & Safety and is one of the most recognised health & safety qualifications in the world. This qualification will give you both the knowledge and skills required to manage health & safety effectively in your workplace. This qualification will also offer career progression, as it is the most desired qualification by employers. The qualification is ideal if you are looking to establish a career in health & safety. This qualification also meets the academic requirements for Technical membership (TechIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health.

  • How long will it take?

For the Blended learning option, the Learning is across two blocks; 3 days one next and 2 days the following week. The classroom hours are 9:00 – 16:30.  Classroom training is suited to those individuals who prefer structured and supported learning and who want the engagement with the tutor and other learners.

  • What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however it is important that you have a suitable understanding of the English language so that you are able to understand the syllabus and apply your knowledge to a workplace. If you are interested in this course but have any concerns over your language abilities, please contact us.

  • Does the qualification expire?

Once you have successfully completed both examinations and earned the qualification, it will never expire, however; health and safety is a field which is constantly evolving, with changing laws and updates to best practices and standards. You will need to keep your knowledge of risk management and of health & safety up to date in order to maintain a high level of competence. NEBOSH recommend enrolling on a course to refresh your knowledge every few years so that you can see what has changed, however this is entirely your choice.

  • Are the NEBOSH qualifications difficult to achieve?

The NEBOSH General Certificate is a foundation level qualification, graded as a level 3 on the National Qualification Framework. This course is designed for people who are going to manage health & safety in a range of industry sectors, and as such, it isn’t a qualification that you can achieve without hard work. That being said, there are over 200,000 people who hold this qualification so it’s certainly not impossible. With commitment, drive and the right tutoring, there’s no reason why you can’t be successful on this course.

One of the main ingredients you need to succeed on this course, is motivation. If it has been a while since you last did any study or exams, it is easy to forget the level of commitment needed to achieve a qualification. You need to consider this around a job and other responsibilities you may have. You will be expected to dedicate some time in the evenings to complete homework and your own research on top of the taught hours.

With regards to time management, if you choose a classroom-based course, this will be 5 days you need to arrange from any work commitment, plus the recommended 40 self-study hours outside the classroom. This may seem a lot, but when time is structured with the use of a study diary, it will be easier. If you’re interested in this course but are worried about the hours, give us a call and speak to one of our course tutors who can advise.

If you’re new to health and safety, this course will introduce you to all aspects of health and safety management, such as legal frameworks, legislation, risk assessments, management systems and audits etc. There will no doubt be elements of the course you find challenging, but whether you take this course in a classroom or online, you have plenty of opportunities throughout your studies to ask questions and be provided with support and guidance from your tutor.
